This Malbec comes from three blocks in the Bridge Pa Triangle on Hawke’s Bay’s Heretaunga Plains, where free-draining silty-loam and red metal soils of alluvial and volcanic origin produce wines with lush fruit and beautifully rounded tannins. Two Malbec clones (595 and 1056) were used, with a cool spring during flowering naturally reducing yields and concentrating the fruit. After a six-day cold maceration and wild fermentation, the wine remained on skins for a further 15 days, completing malolactic fermentation before bottling.

An expressive, fruit-forward Malbec, with layers of cherry, dark plum, blackcurrant and boysenberry alongside spice and subtle chocolate notes. Bright acidity and soft, resolved tannins give the wine balance and length, while time in bottle has allowed the fruit and savoury characters to come together beautifully. A generous, characterful Hawke’s Bay red that is drinking wonderfully now and has plenty of life ahead.

92 points – Cam Douglas MS; 91 points – Sam Kim; 87 points – Bob Campbell MW. Silver Medal – NZ International Wine Show; Bronze Medal – Hawke’s Bay Wine Awards.
