Decibel 'Giunta' Albariño 2023
New Zealand
This single-vineyard Albariño comes from the organic Two Terraces vineyard in the Mangatahi Terraces of inland Hawke’s Bay, farmed by dedicated growers Ian and Linda Quinn. The shallow, stony silt loam soils over red metals, formed by the Ngaruroro River over thousands of years, provide an ideal home for this late-ripening variety. The 2023 season began wet, but a late shift to hot, dry conditions following Cyclone Gabrielle gave the Albariño plenty of time to develop concentrated flavour while retaining freshness.
Vibrant and bursting with high-summer fruit, this is a dry, textural Albariño showing apricot, yellow nectarine, fragrant florals and a bright pop of citrus. Machine-harvested fruit was rested overnight before pressing, then fermented in a combination of seasoned oak and stainless steel to build complexity and texture. Unfined and crossflow filtered, it’s simply a delicious, generous expression of Hawke’s Bay Albariño.
