A Taste of Down Under - Sunday, December 22, 2024 | 2-7P

We're thrilled to present some our favorite wines from Australia and New Zealand. Below are the wines we'll be featuring, along with light bites and wine education. This is a free tasting and we're open late!

Stone Paddock Sauvignon Blanc 2019

This Hawke’s Bay Sauvignon Blanc is a youthful wine with fine acidity and length. On the aroma we find white flesh nectarine, passionfruit and citrus and fragrant white floral notes. The palate is refreshing with lively white fleshed stone fruit flavors, and long citrus finish. This Sauvignon Blanc shows great aromatics and can be drunk young as a summer wine. Some ageing may enhance the weight and structure of this wine.

Vandal Wines 'Militia' Field Blend 2022

Field blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Viognier, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Riesling, Tempranillo and Malbec All fruit sourced a unique single vineyard in the Southern Valleys of Marlborough. All varieties were harvested on the same day. Fruit was destemmed and remained on skins for 24 hours. Spontaneous co-fermentation in seasoned French oak barrels 100% malolactic fermentation. 6 months ageing on full yeast lees. Put to bottle un-fined and unfiltered.

Luta 'Zephr' Chardonnay 2021

Fresh, delicate aromas of green apple, almond, apricot, honeysuckle, dried flowers and flint. The palate is textural and concentrated with bright stone fruits dancing alongside biscotti notes with a creamy yet fresh and saline finish. 60% of the grapes for this wine were picked from a more sun-exposed aspect of the vineyard and the remaining 40% picked from a more shaded, higher vigour parcel 10 days later.

Unkel 'Life's a Beach' Orange 2022

Skin-fermented Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay aged in a mixture of old puncheons and stainless steel. A medium bodied orange wine that you want to keep sipping. Gentle, mouthwatering phenolics wrapped around a hit of Peaches and cream, orange rind, stewed red apple and nectarine. A great intro to orange wine.

Luta 'Shadow' Pinot Noir 2021

Fresh aromatics of tamarillo, strawberry, cherry, violet and a hint of old wood. This wine is plump and fleshy with bright red fruits dominating the palate. Tamarillo, blueberry and vanilla pod linger on the palate while being rounded out with soft plush tannin. All clones were destemmed and fermented together in a stainless steel tank for 6 days then pressed and left to finish fermentation in tank before being transferred to a mixture of old french barrique, puncheon (70%) and stainless steel (30%), for maturation.

Das Juice Red 2022

A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and for the first time Cabernet Franc from two organic vineyards in the Vale. All grapes were hand picked and whole bunch carbonic macerated for two weeks before being pressed to tank for a slow natural ferment. Finished with a small Sulphur addition prior to bottling. A juicy light red with dark blue fruit and featherweight tannin. A modern take on the Cab Sauv blend with lightness and ease.

Redheads 'Catbird Seat' Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

Sourced from a single vineyard from renowned Coonawarra vigneron and RedHeads friend, Jack Burston. Jack used to sell the fruit to a big, premium brand, but was delighted when RedHeads wanted to bottle them solo. Hence RedHeads winery always being in the Catbird Seat! The exceptional fruits were planted under the guidance of the late Wayne Stehbens, the prodigy winemaker of 40 years. Machine harvested in the afternoon to avoid the morning dews in the Coonawarra. Matured in predominantly french oak and a small portion in American oak for 18 months.
